Social Skills/Virtues Program

As a Cooperative Learning Community we focus on the development of Social Skills to promote learning in a harmonious environment.

Each fortnight students attend an assembly where a focus social skill is introduced. Through the fortnight all staff and students endeavour to apply that skill.

Students are rewarded for their efforts and application at the assembly when two certificates per class are issued to worthy recipients.


At the end of each term, our partners in developing community civics, the Dalkeith Rotary Club present a book award to the most outstanding, virtuous student.

Year 7 Leadership Program


All year 7's are encouraged to participate in the leadership opportunities at Dalkeith PS. Prefects, House Captains and Vice Captains are elected each semester. In addition, Orchestra and Choir Captains are elected for the year. 

In March, the year 7 students will travel to Sydney and Canberra for the annual school camp. This is a highlight of the school year as they visit attractions such as; Taronga Zoo, Parliament House, The National Gallery, Questacon, The Australian War Memorial, High Court and the Australian Institute of Sport.

Buddies

The year 1 and 7 students are involved in a buddy program. Each week the buddies meet to participate in cooperative learning activities. As a part of the year 7 Leadership program, each student is assigned a buddy to mentor for the year. This program significantly promotes the inclusive nature of our students and school community.


SRE

Special Religious classes are held for years 1-7, for thirty minutes per week for one semester. Parents may choose for their child participate in Christian Faith classes or Bahai classes.
A community Christmas service is held in the last week of school each year at St Laurence's Anglican Church Dalkeith.


Year 6 Rottnest Camp

In term 4, the year 6's attend a Leadership readiness camp at Rottnest. For three days students engage in individual pursuits and team building events. On return to school prefect elections are held for leadership positions for the following school year.


School Psychology Service


An Educational Psychologist is onsite a day per fortnight. This service, provided by the Department of Education, is available to all students K – 7. For further information or assistance in this area please speak to your child’s teacher.
